Work With Us
We offer positions at every level here at AFC- interns, newly licensed therapists, or independently licensed- we’ve got you covered.
Internship
Albuquerque Family Counseling is pleased to welcome a select number of interns each semester to our CACREP-accredited practicum and internship program. You will gain insight into working at a behavioral health private practice, see individuals and couples, learn proper documentation and treatment planning, and receive education vital to becoming the best therapist possible. This internship is offered to those seeking a master’s degree in social work, clinical counseling, and marriage and family therapy (MA or MS).
Onboarding training orients master’s-level clinical interns to the policies, populations, presenting concerns, and overall environment of an outpatient private practice. Interns may provide individual therapy, couples therapy, psychoeducational services, and participate in supervision.
Each intern receives weekly supervision from a licensed therapist, as well as additional training through weekly small-group supervision, didactic sessions, internal training platforms, and monthly large-group supervision. The goal of our training program is to provide interns with the foundational clinical skills needed to become a competent and independent practitioner.
Expectations include the following:
Applicants must obtain an NPI prior to starting the internship
Attend and participate in weekly individual supervision/small group supervision
Attend monthly remote large group supervision
Complete psycho-educational trainings provided
Provide individual, couples, family, and/or group therapy
Create treatment plans and goals for a variety of issues, including couples therapy, trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and relationship issues
Maintain a weekly caseload of clients
Complete documentation to be reviewed by supervisor no later than 48 hours after the session (ideally same day)
Are you a newly licensed therapist fresh out of grad school, trying to decide where to begin your career? Or are you an independently licensed clinician who doesn’t want the hassle of managing insurance on your own? Wherever you are in your journey, it’s important to find a place that offers support, guidance, balance, and real-world experience—so you can grow into the best version of yourself.
If you have an interest or passion for couples, marriage, or sex therapy, Albuquerque Family Counseling may be the right fit for you. Many of our clinicians come to us with past experience of heavy caseloads, unrealistic demands, and little support. AFC takes a different approach—creating an environment that prioritizes learning and puts your personal and professional development front and center from day one.
With flexible scheduling, a strong support system, and extensive professional development opportunities, this role offers the stability and balance you need to focus on what truly matters: your clients. You’ll have the freedom to design your own schedule, choose between remote, in-person, or hybrid work, and maintain the autonomy to practice in a way that fits your life.
Licensed Therapists
At AFC, we partner with our clinicians as independent contractors. This arrangement allows you to set your own schedule, choose the mix of clients that feels right, and bring your unique professional style to your work. Because this is a contractor role, traditional employee benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, or paid time off are not included. Instead, you maintain independence in managing your own taxes, licensure, and liability insurance—while we provide the support that helps you focus on your clients.
We provide you with:
